Donald D. Dean. Daybeds. December 05th , 2017.
From the beginning of the 1700`s to the middle part of the 1800`s the daybed frame began to take on a more elegant design. They were given names like "a duchesse brisee", "chair `a duchesse", "sofa da reposo" and the "kangaroo` day-bed". Some of these were adorned with beautiful drapes and made to look elegant while others were plain and simple. From the mid 1800`s to the first part of the nineteenth century daybeds were used mainly as a place to sit and rest or to lie down for a short period of time. They took on a variety of different styles throughout this era. They ranged from hard flat surfaces to daybed frames with cushions placed on top to increase the comfort level. By the end of the late nineteenth century, designers began experimenting even more and many unusual designs were made. Some were practical and useful while others were not.
Daybeds Have New Covers Adding Style to Any Room. Daybeds have made a come back in the world of furniture and style. Once, years ago, the best one could hope for was something that looked like a twin bed with an extra side rail. Not so today. In today`s world, one can expect to see this versatile piece of furniture in almost any room.
Daybeds may also incorporate a trundle unit as well. Trundle units allow for an extra mattress to be stored underneath, to be pulled out for extra sleeping space when needed. You can choose a pop-up trundle unit, where the extra mattress can be rolled and elevated to the same height of the daybed, converting it into a king-sized sleeping area. The other option for trundle units is a pull-out, where the extra mattress is rolled out on wheels or a glider. However, these do not elevate to the daybeds height, forcing you to sleep much lower to the ground.
Also keep in mind that the features and bedding added to it will also play a role in what it looks like and how it functions: If you are after a softer look, consider comforter sets with more thickness. A floral pattern will definitely soften the room. Use color as a way to help to soften the room, too. For example, the linens themselves can be white or other soft colors for a more enjoyable look. However, the bed frame`s color also matters. For a softer look, choose a white, contemporary daybed.
Often bedding sets are sold that include the bedskirt, a comforter, and two or three pillow shams that can easily covert the sleep space into a fashionable settee. The colors and patterns allow for easy decorating to suit almost any room and any style. Whether you prefer the look of an English country cottage or a more modern style, there is an ensemble that will complement almost any room. For those who have limited space, such as a small apartment where the bedroom doubles for the living room, the transition is an easy fix. Small one room apartments can now have style that is welcoming under any circumstances.
