Donald D. Dean. Daybeds. December 07th , 2017.
Throughout Victorian times, what we know of contemporary daybeds were nonexistent. Rather, these beds were often wood daybeds, with limited comfort to them. However, the look and charm of these beds, and all of the layers of cushions and fine fabrics is something that has remained present throughout history. You will find modern elements to them today, including eco friendly mattress options and even upholstered headboards. Still, the look of them is very much still Victorian in many cases.
Modern Daybed - A Modern Look For Any Room. When searching or shopping for a daybed, we often do not realize the many styles that are now offered to us by manufacturers. Daybeds used to come in pretty basic styles and usually were of wooden construction and for the most part, quite boring in an architectural sense. The furniture industry has come a long way and continues to reinvent these practical yet stylish pieces of furniture.
The contemporary daybeds have a new design with the side boards replaced by a metal frame mechanism. This mechanism is used to fold the mattress. So in just a few seconds you can transform the daybed into a regular bed, with no effort. This type of furniture is very functional because it can handle consistent usage. And you can use it to modify the design of the room where it is situated, because you can add some colorful cushions. The modern daybed is a better option than the classical sofa because it offers both comfort and functionality.
From the 1700`s through the 1800`s, homes with more modern bedroom furniture may have incorporated a Daybed with Trundle into the space. They were still present in the main portion of the home and used for the same resting purpose. They did have numerous names, though, including the "sofa da reposo" and "chair `a duchesse." One of the differences during this time is that many made them look more elegant than the humble beginnings from which they came. During this time, the "modern" daybed would beginning to take on a place for people to sit and relax for a short period of time, which meant more elaborate designs were included including things like the wrought iron daybeds.
Daybeds Have New Covers Adding Style to Any Room. Daybeds have made a come back in the world of furniture and style. Once, years ago, the best one could hope for was something that looked like a twin bed with an extra side rail. Not so today. In today`s world, one can expect to see this versatile piece of furniture in almost any room.
